What to Expect When You Visit Sweetland Orchard
Visit us for a quiet day full of simple pleasures in the country: a stroll in the orchard, delicious flavors of hard ciders to sample, chickens, and the beauty of nature.
When you plan your visit, consider doing any of the following:
Saturdays and Sundays are normal operations with reservations for tasting kits, flights, pints, walks in the orchard, cider donuts, turnovers, and all of our usual fall goodies.
Saturday evenings are Family Fun Nights. We’ll light up the bonfire and have sausages and wieners from Skluzacek’s Meats available for grilling (vegan and GF options available) along with a s’mores bar that — I can attest — my kids love. We won’t have tasting kits on Saturday evenings, but we’ll pour pints and flights. If the kids know what’s up, they’ll start up a game of Ghost in the Graveyard in the orchard.
Tasting kits accommodate up to four people. Choose a basic hard cider tasting kit and/or an apple tasting kit and add some extras to it like a dessert cider tasting, heirloom apple tasting, cider donuts, or cheese.
We have breads, meats, cheeses, and cider donuts that you can use to prepare your own orchard meal, but also feel free to bring your own food (please just don’t bring beer or wine, which isn’t supported by our liquor license). We have picnic tables by the barn and in the orchard too, or bring a blanket and a lawn chair. We have hard cider and fresh-pressed cider (or limemade if it’s too early for the fresh stuff).
Although we don’t do pick-your-own here, we welcome you to take a walk in the orchard and see what there is to see. We grow over 100 varieties of apples plus pears and tart cherries. Between the orchard flora, the pigs and the poultry, there’s plenty to take in.
There’s a lot to learn here from the tasting notes included in the kit to special events that we hold throughout the season or even just from talking to us. We love to talk apples and cider!
Maybe you just need to pick up some apples. And some cider. And a few donuts since you’re here. And add a pack of Odenthal’s beef jerky. It’s just fine that you need to make a quick stop! We’ll miss being able to talk to you, but we understand.
Be aware that we have very little indoor seating in case of rain, so plan accordingly.
A Bit More Information About Our Tasting Kits
RESERVATIONS FOR TASTING KITS ARE REQUIRED 12 HOURS IN ADVANCE. Tasting kit fees will be refunded in full for cancellations 12 hours in advance.
If you come to the orchard without a tasting kit reservation, that’s okay! We won’t be able to get you a tasting kit because they take a good deal of advance assembly, but you’re still welcome to stroll the orchard, purchase cider and snacks — even a flight of cider — and plant yourself at a picnic table to try and keep your food away from the chickens.
